Eye-popping 3D Art From 2000 AD

I took this panel from 2000 AD prog 1482 (5 Apr 2006). The shading and blur effect on the hand really make it look like it's coming out of the page at you. Do you agree/disagree? Are my eyes worse than I think and my brain is doing weird things to me? Let me know in the comments. I think Henry Flint deserves some mad props for the spectacular art, either way.
