Zombies man, they creep me out.

I just finished watching the entire Romero zombie series, and I think I have determined an overall theme to the movies, apart from all the zombies, of course.

I think one of the points of the series is accepting that the world is over and moving on. In the last 3 out of 4 of the movies the characters are hanging on to the way things were... the world before the dead rise. They are either hold up in malls (which even the characters state are beacons of the old world), or holding on to science or plain old consumerism. A growing theme in the movies is that the zombies remember their lives to an extent, remembering how to shave, pump gas, even use guns (if they were familiar with them while living). The zombies are stuck in the past. The old world belongs to them. It's when the living try to hang onto the old world that they end up getting eaten by the zombies.

The only way the living can survive in the new world is to set out and make a place for themselves away from all the trappings of the world that spawned hell.
